Preliminary Schedule
The conference will take place from 9am on Wednesday, June 24, to 4pm on Friday, June 26.
The opening symposium will take place at a separate venue (details pending confirmation) close to Union Station in downtown Toronto. This is a broader event which brings together policymakers, industry professionals, NGOs, and academics. After lunch and a keynote address by Solomon Hsiang (Stanford University), a bus will be available to take you to the Department of Economics (Max Gluskin House, 150 St. George St.), where the remainder of the conference will take place.
Travel
If you are arriving by plane, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) is extremely convenient but routes are limited. It is located in downtown Toronto a few minutes from the opening symposium.
Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) is also convenient. The Union–Pearson express will take you directly from the airport to Union Station, which is very close to the opening symposium.
Accommodation
For hotels very close to the department, we recommend the Kimpton St. George Hotel or the Yorkville Royal Sonesta. These are on the expensive side, as the campus is located centrally downtown. A modest discount is available for conferencegoers, with discount codes upon request.
There is a subway station just outside the department with service North, South, East, and West. The Spadina streetcar also stops a few minutes' walk away. Toronto is a generally safe city with no areas we would recommend avoiding on safety grounds; significantly more affordable hotels can be found 20–30 minutes from the department by subway or streetcar in any direction.
